Dr. Susan Wilson will be the guest speaker at a luncheon at Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal in Naples. Dr. Wilson will highlight the amazing progress the Tumaini Fund is making in improving the lives of so many orphans in Kagera.  A silent auction will be held with some great items…..and of course, all proceeds will go directly to the Tumaini Fund. There is no cost for this luncheon.

150 solar-powered lamps have been distributed to villages in the remote regions of Kagera, Tanzania. This project was graciously funded by The Naples Council of World Affairs Village Assistance Program. Daylight is a precious commodity for the orphans as they must travel hours to attend school and then need more daylight to tend to their farming. These lamps will provide light with which they can study at nighttime—all which leads to increasing education levels. Literally, this is the difference between passing and failing!

Below are excerpts from her recent “Thanksgiving Message” from Kagera”:

“I am pleased to report that I am beginning to be very comfortable here with the orphans, the villages and being a part of Tumaini.  As many of you know giving gifts is one of my favorite things and so I am in my glory here!  I have prayed for the Lord to tell me what purpose He has for me here and it seems that the answer is organizing and managing distribution of donations. We are distributing a “train car container” of items according to need. I have found many widows do not even have a wash tub to do laundry in or to bathe in. Salt and corn flour are needed as they are some of the bare necessities needed to make a simple meal.”

    We have delivered over 80 bicycles to the Kagera Region of Tanzania and distributed them to the most needy orphans registered with the Fund.
    Below are some of the responses from the recipients:

    “Since I was given a bicycle, I get home early enough to work in our field before nightfall.”

    “I now am able to transport our crops to market on my bike.”

    “With my bike I can transport and sell clean water to people in my village.”

    “Now I travel the distance in one hour  on my bike and I arrive rested and eager to complete my studies.”

    “I used to arrive at school late and tired because it took me over five hours to walk to school.”
